โš ๏ธ Safety Checkpoints & Warnings

๐Ÿ“‹ Step-by-Step Guide (5 Steps)

1

Tint and season the rice

Place the warm cooked sushi rice into a mixing bowl. Fold in the tomato paste or ketchup gently using a rice paddle until all grains are coated in a vibrant, uniform orange color. Avoid crushing the grains while mixing.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Uniform bright orange rice with distinct unbroken grains
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Over-mashing the rice into a gummy paste instead of folding
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Ensure rice is not boiling hot to avoid burning hands during shaping.
2

Mould the head and body

Portion two-thirds of the orange rice onto a sheet of plastic wrap and compress it into a rounded oval for the head. Place another portion on plastic wrap and form an oblong teardrop shape for the torso. Twist the plastic wrap tightly to compact the grains firmly so they hold their shape.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Firmly compacted oval head and tapered torso resting in the bento box
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Packing too loosely, causing the structure to crumble when unwrapped
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Take care not to compress hot rice barehanded; always use plastic film.
3

Form limbs and tail

Divide remaining orange rice into smaller sections to shape two small round arms, two seated legs, and an arched tail that curves upward. Press them against the main torso inside your serving plate or bento box so they fuse cleanly.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Complete 3D orange rice silhouette of a seated lizard with an upturned tail
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Making the tail too thin, which causes it to break
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Position the rice base firmly in the bowl to prevent slipping while decorating.
4

Cut and place the cheese belly and tail flame

Use a small paring knife to cut a tapered oval from the yellow cheddar slice to form the chest and belly patch. Cut a flame shape out of the red bell pepper, and a smaller flame out of cheddar cheese to layer inside the red flame. Position the belly patch onto the torso and attach the layered flame to the tip of the tail using a tiny dot of mayonnaise.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Yellow cheese belly adhered flat to the torso and a dual-toned red and yellow flame mounted at the tail tip
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Cutting the cheese belly too wide, completely hiding the orange body
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Cut cheese and pepper against a flat cutting board, never while holding them in your hand.
5

Cut and apply facial features

Cut two oval eye bases from the white cheese slice. Use kitchen scissors or a nori punch to cut black nori pupils, thin mouth line, and tiny nostril dots. Use tweezers or a toothpick tipped with mayonnaise to place the white cheese eyes, nori pupils, mouth, and nostrils onto the rice head.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Symmetrical Charmander face with white and black eyes, nostril dots, and smiling nori mouth
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Placing eyes too far apart or unevenly spaced
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Use kitchen precision scissors carefully around delicate nori sheets.
